Ring‐opening polymerization of D,L‐lactide by rare earth 2,6‐dimethylaryloxide

Ring‐opening polymerization of D,L ‐lactide (LA) has been successfully carried out by using rare earth 2,6‐dimethylaryloxide (Ln(ODMP)₃) as single component catalyst or initiator for the first time. The effects of different rare earth elements, solvents, monomers and catalyst concentration as well as polymerization temperature and time on the polymerization were investigated. The results show that La(ODMP)₃ exhibits higher activity to prepare poly(D,L ‐lactide) (PLA) with a viscosity molecular weight of 4.5 × 10⁴ g mol^?1 and the conversion of 97 % at 100 °C in 45 min. The catalytic activity of Ln(ODMP)₃ has following sequence: La > Nd > Sm > Gd > Er > Y. A kinetic study has indicated that the polymerization is first order with respect to both monomer and catalyst concentration. The apparent activation energy of the polymerization of LA with La(ODMP)₃ is 69.6 kJ mol^?1. The analyses of polymer ends indicate that the LA polymerization proceeds according to ‘coordination–insertion’ mechanism with selective cleavage of the acyl–oxygen bond of the monomer. Complementary effects of solid lubricants in the automotive brake lining

An experimental investigation was carried out to examine the tribological behavior of NAO (non-asbestos organic) type brake linings containing different volume ratios of graphite and antimony trisulfide (Sb₂S₃). A scale dynamometer was used for friction tests and particular emphases were given to the effect of applied pressure, sliding speed, and temperature on the coefficient of friction according to the relative amounts of the two solid lubricants. Results showed that the brake linings with both solid lubricants exhibited better friction stability and less speed sensitivity than the friction materials containing a single solid lubricant. In particular, the brake lining containing higher concentrations of graphite showed better fade resistance than others during high-temperature friction test.     

MIP-CGP工艺专用催化剂CGP-1的开发与应用

阐述了生产汽油组分满足欧Ⅲ排放标准并多产丙烯的催化裂化工艺（简称MIP-CGP）专用催化剂（简称CGP-1）的研究开发与工业应用结果。CGP-1催化剂的基质具有良好的容炭性能，使活性组元受到良好保护，其优势作用在第二反应区得以充分发挥，具有更高的氢转移活性和强的汽油小分子烯烃裂化活性。中国石化九江分公司和镇海炼化公司的MIP-CGP工业试验标定结果表明，与常规FCC相比，采用CGP-1催化剂的MIP-CGP技术在生产烯烃体积分数小于18％的汽油组分的同时，丙烯产率达到8％以上。此外，汽油诱导期大幅提高，抗爆指数增加；总液体收率有所提高，干气产率下降，焦炭选择性良好。     

Analysis of S-SEED''s characteristics in optical switch

This article introduces the basic structure of a symmetric self-electrooptic effect device （S-SEED）, and applies the Kirchoff＇ s current law and a purely equivalent capacitive model, to analyze S-SEED＇s switch characteristics. Linear approximation and N-segment approximation are utilized to obtain S-SEED＇s voltage-time （V-T） and characteristics. Theoretical analysis is verified by simulations, and the results demonstrate that the precision of S-SEED＇s switch time can satisfy the requirement in applications with linear approximation. Moreover, the simulations compare S-SEED＇s switch characteristics with different input powers and input contrast ratios, which reveal that increasing input contrast ratio is an effective way to improve S-SEED＇s switch characteristics.     

Evaluating dynamic performance: The influence of salient Gestalt characteristics on performance ratings.

It is well recognized that performance changes over time. However, the effect of these changes on overall assessments of performance is largely unknown. In a laboratory experiment, we examined the influence of salient Gestalt characteristics of a dynamic performance profile on supervisory ratings. We manipulated performance trend (flat, linear-improving, linear-deteriorating, U-shaped, and ∩-shaped), performance variation (small, large), and performance mean (negative, zero, positive) within subjects and display format (graphic, tabular) between subjects. Participants received and evaluated information about the weekly performance of different employees over a simulated 26-week period. Results showed strong main effects on performance ratings of both performance mean and performance trend, as well as interactions with display format. Is evidence-based practice diverse enough? Philosophy of science considerations.

In its policy rationale for evidence-based practice in psychology (EBPP), the APA Presidential Task Force on Evidence-Based Practice (see record 2006-05893-001) claims to have constituted itself with "scientists and practitioners from a wide range of perspectives and traditions, reflecting the diverse perspectives within the field" (p. 273). We applaud this attention to diversity but contend that an entire perspective of the debate was omitted in the Task Force's newly approved policy and its underlying report. The failure to consider a philosophy of science perspective led the Task Force to make a number of epistemological assumptions that are not based on evidence or rationale and that thus violate the very spirit of evidence-based decision making. History of depression and smoking cessation outcome: A meta-analysis.

The authors conducted a meta-analysis of published studies to (a) evaluate the premise that a history of major depression is associated with failure to quit smoking and (b) identify factors that moderate the relationship between history of depression and cessation outcome. Fifteen studies met the selection requirements and were coded for various study methodology and treatment characteristics. DSTAT was used to calculate individual study effect sizes, determine the mean effect size across studies. and test for moderator effects. No differences in either short-term (≤ 3 months) or long-term abstinence rates (≥ 6 months) were observed between smokers positive versus negative for history of depression. Lifetime history of major depression does not appear to be an independent risk factor for cessation failure in smoking cessation treatment. 油管电热清防蜡技术在强水敏油田的应用

江苏油田的庄 2、韦 2油田属强水敏油田 ,采用热 (水 )洗油井和化学清防蜡效果较差 ,两油田每年因洗井造成地层污染影响的产量损失在 5 0 0 0t以上 ,约占油田产量的 4 5 %。根据集肤效应 ,采用油管电热清蜡技术 ,在含水小于 6 0 %、井斜小于 4 0°的油井上可正常使用 ,一般通电加热 4 0～ 80min后 ,油井井口温度能达到 5 0℃左右 ,最高可达到 6 5℃以上 ,连续加热 5～ 6h即可达到清蜡目的 ,电热清蜡为周期 6 0～ 90d。影响电热清蜡主要指标因素是油井的产液量 ,产液量越小 ,所需要的加热电流和加热电压也越小 ,井口温度达到最高值越低 ,清蜡效果越差。试验的 7口井平均年度投入产出比达到 1∶5 ,经济效益和社会效益十分明显。
